Media Tech student gets ready to film  

For the students in the advanced and practicum media tech classes, tests involve prepping the cameras for football games, and homework encompasses capturing different stories across the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District.

 

"It's my favorite class," said Angelique Garcia, a senior at Harlingen High School South. "My favorite part about the class is going out to do the interviews and meeting new people.

Vela Middle School drumline named Grand Champion at competition
  

 

The Vela Middle School drumline knows how to win a crowd over with their multi-dimensional percussion arrangements.

 

The 12 percussion students banned together for an epic performance that earned them the title of Grand Champion for the middle school division at the Roma Gladiator Drumline Competition on Sept. 22.

Person of the week: Alfaro books HCISD for reading success

   

 

 Since a young age, Diana Alfaro has looked forward to visiting the library to see people reading the stacks of books and the librarians hard at work.

 

"My mom would take me to the library, and I would just stare the librarians stamping and organizing all of the books," Alfaro said. "I remember thinking to myself how much fun it looked."

Quartet performs for HCISD students

   

 

The eyes and ears of orchestra students fixated for an hour on the stage featuring four professional musicians drawing their bows across taut strings and creating a captivating sound

 

"It was very beautiful," said Juan Martinez, a freshmen at Harlingen High School. "I didn't want them to stop playing. I could have listened to them all day."

  Flores joins Texas superintendents for state panel

   

Superintendent Dr. Steve Flores represented the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District and the Rio Grande Valley on Friday afternoon, serving on a panel at the Texas Tribune Festival to discuss the future of Texas public schools.
